Samit Patel has replaced Scott Borthwick in the MCC squad for the Champion County match against Yorkshire, in Abu Dhabi, next month.

Borthwick has opted to extend his time playing New Zealand domestic cricket for Wellington where he currently has 211 runs in three Plunket Shield matches.

Patel was brought into England’s Test squad for the Test series against Pakistan, in the UAE, following the injury suffered by the Surrey allrounder Zafar Ansari which ruled him out of the trip. He was then recalled to the side for the final Test in Sharjah.

He will join four other players with England caps in the MCC squad: James Tredwell, Rikki Clarke, Graham Onions and captain Ian Bell.

The match will take place at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium from March 20-23 and this year, at the request of Yorkshire, will be played as a day-time fixture with red balls instead of under floodlights.
