Last-gasp Morris denies England

19 February 2016 | David Clark

Chris Morris was the thorn in England’s side again as South Africa won the first T20 International off the last ball of the game at Newlands.

England had posted a substandard 134 for eight, despite Alex Hales and Jason Roy getting them off to a flier.

However, excellent spells from Ben Stokes and Chris Jordan kept the tourists in the game, and 15 were needed from Reece Topley’s final over.

Morris whittled the equation down to two required from the final delivery, and Topley missed a run-out chance as Kyle Abbott scampered home for a second at the non-striker’s end to give the Proteas a three-wicket victory.
