Yorkshire and England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow has made a late dash from South Africa to the United Arab Emirates to join Peshawar Zalmi for the Pakistan Super League play-offs.
Bairstow, not included in England’s Twenty20 international squad for the two-match series against the Proteas, will play at least two matches for the franchise, coached by Andy Flower.
The 26-year-old made his Peshawar debut in the first qualifying final against Quetta Gladiators in Dubai today.
While victory would take Peshawar through to the final, they would get another chance to reach the showpiece in the third qualifying final if they are defeated.
Bairstow is the latest current England international to play in the PSL, after James Vince and Sam Billings, while the latter and Jos Buttler will also feature in the Indian Premier League later this year.
