Victoria charged to an outright victory over South Australia and a commanding lead on the Sheffield Shield table on the final afternoon of the day/night match at Adelaide Oval.

The ground’s floodlights were not even required on day four, as Fawad Ahmed‘s spin and Scott Boland‘s heavy ball ripped through South Australia, who had entered the match as Victoria’s nearest challengers on the Shield table.

For the hosts only the captain Travis Head was able to endure for long, making a forlorn 59 before his wicket was the start of a match-ending slide in which SA lost their last four wickets for a mere 22.

Victoria are now very much in pole position to play the Shield final at their preferred venue, the lateral choice of Traeger Park in Alice Springs.
