Sydney: Australian all-rounder Shane Watson is confident of recovering from his abdominal injury and regaining full fitness in time for the World Twenty20 to be held in India next month.

Watson is one of four members of Australia’s 15-man squad for the World T20 currently on the sidelines due to injury, with Aaron Finch, James Faulkner and Nathan Coulter-Nile also looking to get back to full fitness. (Finch Faces Race Against Time to get Fit)

Watson flew in to the country over the weekend from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he was plying his trade for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The 34-year-old underwent several scans here and said he should return to full fitness in a couple of weeks.

“It’s going to take me a couple of weeks to get back into batting and bowling,” Watson was quoted as saying by the Cricket Australia website on Tuesday.

“It’s not major. We got it before it did too much damage. We’d played three matches in three days (for Islamabad). I tried to bowl a slower ball but put too many revs on it and it twinged a bit. I’m very confident I’ll be right for the World Cup,” he said.

“That’s still three or four weeks away. This sort of injury, it’s not a huge injury. It’s not like a side strain or anything like that. If everything goes to plan, I’ll be right,” he added.

Australia’s T20 squad will leave on February 28 to play three warm-up matches against South Africa.
