Bopara king of Kings in Karachi triumph

12 February 2016 | David Clark

Ravi Bopara put in a remarkable all-round display to guide Karachi Kings to a 27-run win over Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League.

The newly-appointed Essex limited-overs captain followed his 67 from 33 balls in yesterday’s defeat to Peshawar Zalmi with 71 off 43 deliveries.

The 30-year-old hit four sixes in a Karachi total of 178 for five, and then took 6-16 with his four overs of medium pace.

Bopara ousted West Indies’ stars Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo and Pakistan international Umar Akmal as he accounted for six of the top seven Lahore batsmen.

Bopara’s outstanding display means he is now both the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker in the inaugural Pakistan Super League.
