IPL Auction 2016 Live: Carlos Brathwaite Springs a Surprise, Goes to Delhi Daredevils for Rs 4.2 Crore

The 2016 Indian Premier League auction will have several top names going under the hammer. Eight franchises, including two new ones – Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants, would be eager to go all the way to set their house in order ahead of the big battle. 12:55 hrs IST: Another list of all-rounders are up for grabs. So far, teams are not interested in international and local bowlers.

12:49 hrs IST: The allrounders did not yield much result. None of the players got a team. The next list is of bowlers.

12:44 hrs IST: Nathan McCullum, Farhaan Behardien and Jeevan Mendis go unsold. Juan Theron and Vernon Philander find no bidders.

12:19 hrs IST: Mustafizur Rahman, Bangladesh’s new fast bowling weapon, is up next. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore are going for it. His base price was 50 lakhs. He is sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 1.4 Crore.

09:14 hrs IST: Some information about highest auction price and lowest auction price. Delhi Daredevils have an auction price of Rs 37.16 crore, the highest while Mumbai Indians, the two-time IPL and Champions League Twenty20 champions, have the lowest auction price at 14.40 crore.

A total of 351 players will be part of the auction, which includes 230 Indians. Each of the eight teams must have a minimum squad size of 16, and a maximum of 27. Franchises can have a maximum of nine overseas players. The maximum base price of the players have been set at Rs 2 crore, while the minimum is Rs 10 lakh.

Among the nine marquee players, Yuvraj Singh, Kevin Pietersen, Ishant Sharma, Ashish Nehra and Shane Watson have the highest base price of Rs 2 crore. However, South Africa’s top pacer Dale Steyn, who is also a marquee player, has priced himself at Rs 1.5 crore.

Then again reputations go for a toss sometimes in IPL auction. While youngsters like Barinder Sran have been base-priced low, they might turn out to be the among the most costliest buys.

Among the eight franchises Delhi Daredevils’>Delhi Daredevils have been left with the highest purse of Rs 37.15 crore, while Mumbai Indians’>Mumbai Indians have the lowest at Rs 14.10 crore, after player retention.

Among the international capped players to be part of the auction, Australia have outnumbered India 29 to 26. Among other teams, West Indies, South Africa and Sri Lanka have more than 15 capped players in the auction.
