Knight's Hurricanes bow out in WBBL semis

22 January 2016 | Callum Dent

Skipper Heather Knight could not lead Hobart Hurricanes into the Women’s Big Bash League final as Sydney Sixers set up a final showdown with city rivals Sydney Thunder on Sunday.

In a rain-affected last-four clash at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Hurricanes were restricted to 86 for eight in their 14 overs after Knight won the toss.

England vice-captain Knight gave her side a decent start with two fours in a 13-ball 16 but only two other Hurricanes players made double figures.

The Sixers’ target was whittled down to 55 off eight overs due to more bad weather and they romped home with 10 wickets and 10 balls to spare.

England will therefore have representation in the final courtesy of Laura Marsh, who did not feature in the Sixers’ ninth consecutive win.
